Microsporogenesis, microgametogenesis and pollen germination of Castanea sativa Mill. in associations of Fago castanetum and Querco castanetum in Potkozarje region

Process of microsporogenesis, microgametogenesis and pollen germination of Castanea sativa Mill. in association of Fago castaneum and Querco castaneum in Potkozarje region was studied within the project. Microsporogenesis and microgametogenesis where followed by prepared histological preparations, while the pollen characteristics were observed trough its fertility and viability (by light microscopy) and pollen morphology using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The planed es are fully realized. During the two years of research a number of chestnuts genotypes were observed being placed at different locations on the northern part of Kozara mountain (Parnice, Vlaškovci, Koturovi, Moštanica, Sreflije, Kostajnica, Slabinja...). Plant material was taken from the beginning stage of flowering to the harvest phase. Results will indicate the reproductive capacity of the analyzed genotypes, which would create a predisposition to extract fruitful trees with sufficient level of production and germination of pollen.

Part of resultsare presented trough MSc thesis of the candidate Mira Ćopić BSc, titled: Organogenesis of the male gametophyte of chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) in the Potkozarje region, while other results will be the subject of scientific papers and communications.
