Genotype Characterization of Male Sterility of Blatina Cultivar

 Coordinator: Prof Dragutin Mijatović, PhD

The project supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Srpska

Implementation Time: 2009-2010

The protection of geographical indications and designations of origin as a basis for appearance on EU market imposes the necessity of preservation of autochthonous species and cultivars and affirmation of authentic products. Blatina cultivar is the leading autochthonous vines cultivar for production of red wine not only in the Republic of Srpska but also in the entire Bosnia and Herzegovina. With these attributes it deserves the attention in the study and potential elimination of shortcomings which are fairly manifested in the production process.

The research subject within the project is genotypic characterization of male sterility of Blatina cultivar. This cultivar is autochthonous and it raises many questions about the biology of growth and development which must be studied in accordance to morphological characteristics of the cultivar in order to provide the basics for their genotypic standardization and conservation in accordance to the protocol of UPOV convention.
