Cooperation

The Genetic Resources Institute takes an active role in European Cooperative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR) whose member was SFRY. This was made possible after the accession of BiH to the 7th phase of the project. The agreement on the accession of BiH to the 8th phase of the programme was approved and ratified in March and April 2010. The coordinator on behalf of BiH was Prof Dr Gordana Djurić (www.ecpgr.cgiar.org). The eleventh meeting of the ECPGR Steering Committee took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina in September 2008 when the 8th phase of the cooperative programme was agreed. The accession to the 8th phase of the Programme enabled the accession to AEGIS (A European Gene Bank Integrated System). The Memorandum on the Accession of BiH to AEGIS was signed in May 2010.

The Genetic Resources Institute of the University of Banja Luka is part of European Plant Genetic Resources (EURISCO) with its accessions (http://eurisco.ecpgr.org/static/ network_focal_points.html).

The Staff of the Institute participated in the making of the Second Report on the State of World’s Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture published in 2009 by the Commission on Genetic Resources within the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO UN) (www.fao.org/agriculture/crops/core-themes/theme/seeds-pgr/sow/en/#cr).
