Dynamics of Differentiation of Female Gametophyte Pears Depending on Flowering Position in Inflorescence

 Coordinator: Docent Dr Ljubomir Radoš

The project supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Srpska

Implementation Time: 2009-2010

Intensive cultivation of pears consists of pollination and fruit set in a completely controlled way. Significant bearing potential of the pear is not used enough. It happens because bees rarely visit pear flower during the flowering time and fertilization. Weather conditions during the flowering time (rains, high temperatures, low relative humidity) can have harmful effects on fertilization and fruit set. The flowering dynamics of flowers in the inflorescence is very important – since flowering time lasts, long harmful effects of bad weather conditions can be avoided. Apart from differences in fruit set, the analysis of developed fruit flesh points to the certain differences in fruit depending on the position of flowers in bloom. With the knowledge of specific dynamics of the development of female gametophyte pears we can precisely define the model of pollination in fruit set function.

The main objective of the project is to fully examine the differences in the flower development dynamics in the different branching orders on the pear tree, bearing in mind that the flowering dynamics of flower can differ in 5 or more days. A detailed analysis and an introduction to the dynamics of the female gametophytes at the cytohistological level bring new possibilities of precise defining inflorescence development model and pollination of the flowers in the inflorescence as the basis for fruit set process.
