Working group - Industrial plants

Working Group for industrial plants which was formed at the Genetic Resources Institute aims to contribute to the preservations of the various genotypes of indigenous plants from the total loss. Industrial plants are cultivated plant species intended for industrial processing for the production of vegetable protein, oil, starch, sugar, and textiles, as well as tobacco that is classified in the group of other industrial plants. The use of high-yielding hybrids are led to a significant narrowing of the genetic variability of field crops and colected indigenous material of industrial plants may represent a biological basis for the work of the breeder. Activities to be undertaken within the framework of the working group for industrial plants are inventorying the field, collection, multiplication, characterization, evaluation and documentation. Within the framework of these activities the inventoried regions are Trebinje, Ljubinje, Prijedor, Novi Grad, Visegrad, Vlasenica, Cajnice, Sokolac and Rogatica and collected accessions are tobacco, potatoes and flax. Collected accessions of industrial plants are kept in the prescribed conditions. The working group consists of four members.
