Genetic characterization of spruce (Picea abies Karst) in the Republic of Srpska

Project coordinator: prof. dr Milan Mataruga

Project suported by Ministry of Science and Technology of Republic of Srpska

 Realisation period: 2012-2013.

The project aims are to collect samples over the most important populations of spruce in the Republic of Srpska, and examine genetic variability by analyzing molecular markers, which would constitute the basis for defining provenance regions.

Entering selected coefficients of genetic distance, climate, description of site conditions and other relevant indicators in GIS applications, later could be obtained spatially regions of provenance for the Republic of Srpska.

Extraction of spruce provenance regions is harmonization of the activities on transfer of forest reproductive material within the European Union and national legislation.
